Great Location

In the warmer summer months there is nothing nicer or more relaxing than to sit along side the beautiful Southern Oxford canal and enjoy a drink or a spot of “al fresco” dining at one of our towpath tables whilst watching the boats go by.

There are many interesting places to visit and activities to take part in close by – why not have a relaxing drink or bite to eat after your excursion?

The Best Experience Ever

Great pub, friendly staff & great food at sensible prices. This is my second review of the Jolly Boatman, the first being in March 2019. So, what's happened since then, apart from me being another year older? Well this great pub has just got better and better. I know it wasn't easy for many landlords running a pub, a cafe or a restaurant during lockdown, but what the team did was to give the place a good old makeover, inside and out, so they could welcome much needed visitors back to what is a very busy and well-liked haunt for so many people. We do go there quite regularly, even though, for us, it's a 10 mile, 20 minute trip to get there. However, it's worth it, for the friendly welcome, which is warm and genuine, through to the idyllic location as it nestles alongside the Oxford canal near Thrupp and that's before I go on to talk about the excellent home cooked food, which attracts an extremely reasonable price, when you consider the quality of the food and the generous servings. We always take our dogs for a weekend walk along the canal path and return for a nice spot of lunch and we have never had a bad meal or an unhappy visit ever. If you haven't tried it, then take this as a very high recommendation from me. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. Our best wishes to the Landlady, Jane and her team of wonderful staff, led by Sam and Charlotte, who always greet us and look after us every time we go there.
